The Treehouse Trust - Providing facilities and services for education, integration and guidance of children diagnosed with autism and to provide help and guidance to parents. Renewal of support but specifically for Parent Empowerment Project which will provide a national service to support parents affected by autism. Request for £10,000 p.a. for three years. Agreed £10,000 p.a. for two years. Funding for a third year will be considered.
Barbican Education - Working in partnership with teachers and leading writers to make a difference to children's ability to express themselves through words. After a successful two-year pilot, they are now seeking to develop the programme and are looking for funding for 'Can I Have A Word'. Request for £10,000. Agreed £3,500.
LSW Prison Project - Professional vocational arts training programme in prisons, which seeks to resettle offenders/ex-offenders within the professional community. Agreed £5,000.
The Speech, Language and Hearing Centre at Christopher Place - Providing an early intervention programme for babies and children under five who have hearing impairment or delay in speech, language and communication. Developing social skills in very young children and enabling parents to enhance those skills themselves. The Centre treats some people with Asperger's syndrome, borderline autism and so on, as well as those with hearing difficulties and an array of other conditions that make for problems with social contact. £10,000 p.a. for three years.
Bangladesh Welfare Association - To provide advice and information on educational needs/problems of Bangladeshi parents with children in mainstream schools in Tower Hamlets. £5,000 towards the salary of an Education & Training Officer.
Insight Arts - Using arts to promote the rehabilitation of offenders, ex-offenders and those at risk of offending. Support for STAR programme which works as a year-round series of workshops for ex-prisoners during the vulnerable period after release. Shortfall of £42,000. Agreed £10,000.
The Foundation for Conductive Education - The development and advancement of the science and skill of conductive education and especially the teaching thereof. Support for 'Skills for the Future' project which provides practical help for 7-11 year olds who have dyspraxia to overcome the disabling effects of their condition. Agreed £2,625 which is the cost per group of five children attending the programme for one year.
The Voices Foundation - Providing in-school programmes for state primary schools which are promoted through the Local Education Authorities. Agreed to pledge support for £7,900.
19 Princelet Street : Museum of Immigration & Diversity - Working with the local community to combat economic and social exclusion and to show how society has been shaped by centuries of immigration to Britain. The charity was set up to save the historic building as an educational resource and museum and to celebrate the economic and cultural contribution that refugees and asylum seekers make to Britain. The aim is to promote understanding about the reasons why people seek sanctuary. £5,000.
Medical Foundation - Caring for victims of torture. £5,000 for 'Art Therapy and Schools' Project - which is an innovative approach to reaching refugee children in Greater London who have suffered significant trauma and isolation in their lives, who might be isolated, and who belong to mobile or uprooted communities.
The Hardman Trust - Supporting extraordinary rehabilitative efforts made by prisoners in HM Prisons by granting awards towards personal and skills development. The Trust wish to increase the annual number of awards to one hundred. Grant of £3,000 representing six awards.
